Island Essentials Benefit (formerly the PEI Sales Tax Credit)
Canada Revenue Agency
A tax-free amount paid quarterly with the federal Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit to offset sales tax for low and modest income households. Verbatim: "an annual credit of up to $310 for an individual or up to $365 for couples and single parents."
The catch: The name changes in November 2026 and the terms change with it. Verbatim from CRA: "Starting in November 2026, the Prince Edward Island tax credit will be renamed the Prince Edward Island essentials benefit (PEIEB) [...] A new minimum payment amount of $175 will also be introduced, ensuring that all Prince Edward Island residents who qualify can receive the benefit, regardless of income." Until then the old name is what appears on a notice of assessment. Like the child benefit it is filing-gated and invisible: no application exists, and a year without a return is a year without payment.
