Financial Assistance for Out-of-Province Medical Travel
Health PEI
Two routes to cutting the travel cost of approved out-of-province care for a PEI resident with a valid health card: a fare subsidy for Maritime Bus travel to Nova Scotia or New Brunswick, and Hope Air, a national charity offering "free flights, bridge/ferry passes, gas cards, accommodations and meals."
The catch: Prior approval from Health PEI for the out-of-province service is the gate on all of it, so the sequencing matters more than the paperwork - book travel before approval and neither route applies. The two halves are not the same kind of thing: the bus subsidy is provincial, while Hope Air is a charity making its own decision on "your financial needs, annual health-care-related expenses, your frequency of out-of-province travel for health services, and other factors", so a provincial approval does not carry over to it.
