Newfoundland and Labrador Child Benefit
Canada Revenue Agency
A tax-free monthly amount paid with the Canada Child Benefit. Verbatim from CRA: "$157.33 per month for the first child", "$166.83 per month for the second child", "$179.16 per month for the third child" and "$192.50 per month for each additional child." A Pre-Natal Infant Nutrition Supplement of $150 a month per child under five is paid on the same footing.
The catch: The per-child amount goes up with each additional child rather than down, which is the opposite of most child benefits and is worth checking against any third-party summary that says otherwise. Reduction begins at an adjusted family net income of $20,397 - a low threshold, so a modest raise moves the amount. Nothing is applied for and nothing arrives without a filed return.
