Newfoundland and Labrador Seniors' Benefit
Canada Revenue Agency
A tax-free annual amount for low-income seniors, paid quarterly with the Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit. Verbatim from CRA: "a tax-free annual amount of $1,882" where adjusted family net income is $30,409 or less.
The catch: It is a household test, not an individual one: a couple including at least one senior is assessed on combined income, so a senior with a working spouse can be reduced to nothing. Part of the amount is still paid between $30,409 and $46,549. Filing is the only trigger - there is no application and no notification that it was missed.
