Ontario Drug Benefit seniors' deductible and co-payment

Ontario Ministry of Health

Ontario residents aged 65 and over are covered by the Ontario Drug Benefit programme, and low-income seniors can have the annual deductible removed and the per-prescription co-payment reduced through the Seniors Co-Payment Program.

The catch: Turning 65 enrols you in the drug benefit automatically, but it does NOT enrol you in the co-payment reduction - that is a separate income-tested application, and the deductible is charged in the meantime. The programme year runs August to July, so a claim made late in the year covers a shorter period for the same paperwork.
