Georgia Retraining Tax Credit - up to $1,250 per employee per year
Georgia Department of Revenue
A credit for half the direct cost of retraining existing full-time staff on new equipment or new technology: up to $500 per employee per approved programme per year, capped at $1,250 per employee per year where somebody completes more than one approved programme.
The catch: The programme has to be approved by the Technical College System of Georgia before you claim, and the completion forms need a TCSG signature attached to Form IT-RC - so this is not something to discover while preparing a return. Training on ordinary commercial software is explicitly excluded: word processing, databases, presentations, spreadsheets, email, personal information managers and operating systems, unless your business is the one providing that training. The credit is capped at 50 per cent of your state income tax liability, and it must be claimed within one year instead of the normal three.
