PrairiesCan Business Scale-up and Productivity - repayable, not a grant
Prairies Economic Development Canada
Federal funding for high-growth Prairie businesses scaling up or improving productivity. Described throughout as a contribution, and interest-free, which is a real benefit worth having.
The catch: It is a loan. PrairiesCan's own applicant guide: "It offers interest-free, repayable funding to incorporated businesses", and "recipients to repay the entire principal within 6 years of project completion. Following a 1-year grace period after project completion, recipients will be required to make 60 equal monthly payments." Late principal payments are charged the average bank rate plus 3 per cent. There is no penalty for early repayment. Priority normally goes to companies with 20 per cent year-over-year revenue growth, so it is not a general-purpose small business program.
