Transport Canada

An open recall is a free repair at a dealership - often several hundred to several thousand dollars - with no eligibility test beyond owning the vehicle. Transport Canada publishes the recall database as open data, searchable by make, model and year.

The catch: There is no public VIN lookup, so this tells you what has been recalled for your model, not which recalls are still open on your specific car. Confirm with a dealer using your VIN. The federal data refreshes monthly.

Health Canada

Daily-updated recalls across consumer products, toys, food allergens, medical devices, cannabis, vehicles and veterinary drugs - covering Health Canada, CFIA and Transport Canada in one feed. A recalled product is usually a free replacement or refund.

The catch: A recall notice tells you the product is affected; the remedy and how to claim it are set by the company, and some remedies expire.
