Alberta Adult Health Benefit
Alberta Health
Health coverage for adults in low-income Alberta households: dental, prescription drugs, essential diabetes supplies, emergency ambulance and essential over-the-counter medications.
The catch: It pays last, not first. Verbatim: "If you or other household members have coverage through another health benefits plan, you must use that plan first. The Alberta Adult Health Benefit plan may cover your remaining costs." Where a dental service is covered by both this and the federal Canadian Dental Care Plan: "claims must be submitted to the CDCP first, with any remaining eligible costs then covered by AAHB." Holding both is allowed and is worth more than holding either; claiming them in the wrong order is what costs money. The income thresholds carry no indexation statement on the page and are re-set administratively, so they are stored with the date they were read.
Do these first
Canadian Dental Care Plan
helps Not a prerequisite - either can be held alone. For a dental service covered by both, the claim goes to the CDCP first and AAHB covers the remainder. AAHB's general posture is payer of last resort behind any other plan, private ones included, which has no offer to point at and lives in CatchText instead. Any traversal that presents this edge as a gate is wrong.
